Description
A true witness to 19th-century refinement, this antique sewing box (or work companion) combines elegance and functionality. Its deep blue velvet exterior offers a luxurious touch, highlighted by finely chased silver-plated metal ornaments.
The interior reveals a striking contrast with cherry red padding. The interior is adorned with delicate "boutis" needlework, punctuated by blue fabric beads echoing the exterior color. A central loop inside the lid holds four original sewing accessories, three of which feature handles made of noble materials (bone or white celluloid): a crochet hook, a stiletto, a needle case, and a thimble revealing the brand: "FIL AU CHINOIS".
The item is secured by a functional lock accompanied by its small clover-ring key, adding a touch of authentic charm.
Please note: Signs of wear present. The interior lid padding is slightly peeling on one side, and there are tears on the two fabric flaps covering the interior hinges. This box will require cleaning by the buyer.
